PT334-6C Infrared Receiver Phototransistor 5MM

The PT334-6C 5MM Phototransistor is a high speed and high sensitive NPN silicon phototransistor. It is completely ;ead and halogen free. It is packaged as a 5mm LED using a clear epoxy, making it sensitive to infrared radiation.  

Phototransistors detect light and convert it into electrical current. It works just like a buffed-up photodiode. Phototransistors uses the usual NPN structure of a transistor to turn light into a digital signal. This means it can also be used as a switch or to amplify current. Moreover, due to these advantages, phototransistor are more sensitive to light than standard photodiodes.
